APC Governors Meet in Lagos to Align with Tinubu’s Policies

The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), comprising Nigeria’s state governors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), will convene a crucial meeting in Lagos today. The session, hosted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is scheduled for Eko Hotel and Suites on Victoria Island.

The timing coincides with President Bola Tinubu’s presence in Lagos for the Eid-el-Fitr holiday, before his return to Abuja. The gathering occurs as the APC solidifies its national dominance, holding 31 of Nigeria’s 36 governorship seats as of March 2026—a position recently strengthened by defections from opposition parties.

The forum’s agenda is expected to centre on synchronising state-level governance initiatives with the federal government’s policy framework and enhancing coordination among APC-led states. This meeting follows the PGF’s last gathering in Lagos in December 2025 at the same venue. Chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, that December session concluded with a communique expressing optimism for Nigeria’s unity, stability, and long-term prosperity, while members reviewed national security and commended improved collaboration between federal, state, and local security structures, alongside the efforts of agencies and community volunteers.

As a key body for the APC’s state executives, the PGF’s discussions often set the tone for coordinated implementation of national policies across its controlled states. today’s meeting will likely address practical steps to align state programmes with federal economic and security agendas, a process of heightened importance given the party’s overwhelming majority in state governments. The outcomes may signal the administration’s strategic focus for the upcoming term and underscore the central government’s reliance on state-level partnerships to drive its national development and security objectives. Observers will be attentive to any communique or resolutions emerging from the forum, which traditionally outlines collective gubernatorial positions on pressing national issues.
