Three names have been submitted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) legacy stakeholders in Kano State as nominees for the vacant Deputy Governor position, following the resignation of Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026.

According to a statement issued by Magaji Umar Gwammaja on Sunday, the nominees are Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, and Murtala Sule Garo. Gwammaja described the candidates as experienced leaders, highlighting Bichi’s administrative background in both state and federal roles, Rurum’s legislative experience, and Garo’s long-standing service in local government and the state executive council.

The list will now be forwarded to security agencies for screening to ensure the nominees meet the required standards. Following this process, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is expected to consult with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure national political alignment before proceeding.

“This step will ensure national synergy and political alignment,” Gwammaja said. “After these high-level consultations, the governor will transmit the final selected name to the Kano State House of Assembly for formal screening and confirmation in accordance with constitutional provisions.”

The appointment comes at a critical time for the state administration, as it seeks to fill the leadership gap left by Gwarzo’s departure. The selection process underscores the importance of political consensus and due diligence in maintaining stability within the state’s governance structure.

Stakeholders and political observers in Kano are closely monitoring the next steps, particularly the role of the state assembly in confirming the nominee. The outcome will have implications for the balance of power and administrative continuity in Kano State’s executive leadership.
