The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially announced its intention to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State during the upcoming 2027 general elections. This declaration was made on Sunday in Maiduguri at the inauguration of the party’s state executive members. During the event, chairman Kolo Bukar outlined the ADC’s strategy for contesting the governorship seat, emphasizing the party’s commitment to addressing ongoing insecurity and governance failures in the state.
Bukar highlighted that the ADC is gaining momentum across all 27 local government areas, asserting that the party understands the needs of Borno’s residents and is prepared to provide an alternative political direction. “We are going to change the political tide in 2027. Our party knows the people, and we know how to unseat the ruling party in Borno State,” he stated. He further connected the recent increase in attacks in parts of the North-East to what he described as governance shortcomings, promising that the ADC would implement policies aimed at addressing insecurity, poverty, and unemployment if elected.
In addition, Bukar stressed that the party is developing practical solutions to tackle the state’s pressing challenges. Party leader Kashim Imam Ibrahim echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the ADC’s priority is to enhance living conditions and deliver responsive leadership to the citizens of Borno. Despite recognizing internal challenges, the ADC remains confident that it will emerge stronger as the 2027 elections approach. This declaration signifies a pivotal moment in Borno’s political landscape, setting the stage for increased competition in the next electoral cycle.
