Nigerian industrialist and philanthropist Aliko Dangote has been named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2026. This recognition marks his second appearance on the prestigious list, having first been honoured in 2014. The annual TIME100 list, published on April 15, celebrates global figures whose leadership, ideas, and actions are shaping the future across various sectors, including business, politics, culture, and society.

Dangote joins an elite group that features prominent leaders such as U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Pope Leo XIV, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan. As the founder and president of Dangote Group—Africa’s largest indigenous industrial conglomerate—he is highlighted in the “Titans and Innovators” category. Notably, he is the only Nigerian on this year’s list, recognised for his significant contributions to driving industrialisation across the continent.

Under Dangote’s leadership, Dangote Group has made substantial investments in cement manufacturing, sugar and food processing, agriculture, infrastructure, and energy. These efforts have played a crucial role in reducing Africa’s dependence on imports while also creating millions of jobs. TIME Magazine’s citation emphasizes Dangote’s vision of building African industries using local resources to enhance global competitiveness. His recent investments in large-scale energy and manufacturing infrastructure exemplify his long-term commitment to Africa’s economic transformation.

In addition to his business achievements, Dangote is well-known for his philanthropic efforts through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, one of Africa’s largest private charitable organisations. The Foundation supports essential initiatives in healthcare, nutrition, education, disaster relief, and economic empowerment, benefiting vulnerable communities throughout the continent. Other notable figures in the Titan category include Reid Wiseman, commander of the Artemis II mission to the moon; tech billionaires Michael and Susan Dell; and fashion designer Ralph Lauren.

The 2026 TIME100 also acknowledges leaders in science, social advocacy, and entertainment, reflecting a diverse range of global influence. Dangote’s inclusion further underscores the growing international recognition of African leadership, innovation, and enterprise, positioning him as a symbol of the continent’s expanding role in shaping global economic and development narratives.
