Police begin investigation into death of NSCDC personnel in Kano attack

The Benue State Police Command has issued a stern warning to individuals involved in cattle rustling, urging them to cease these activities or face strict legal consequences. Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Emenari conveyed this caution in a statement released on Wednesday through the command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, and shared with journalists. The police indicated that intelligence reports and ongoing investigations suggest that cattle rustling has been a significant trigger for recurring violence and retaliatory attacks in various communities.

The command emphasized that the warning applies not only to those directly engaged in cattle theft but also to individuals who buy, shelter, or profit from stolen livestock. Such individuals will be treated as accomplices in banditry and prosecuted accordingly. The statement urged all residents to refrain from unlawful activities and to support security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations.

Acknowledging the security concerns affecting parts of the state, including the Local Government Areas of Apa, Logo, Katsina-Ala, Ukum, Gwer East, and Guma, the police disclosed that clearance operations have already begun to eliminate criminal elements. To further its operational objectives, the command has maintained the deployment of tactical teams to identified areas of concern, including hinterlands and other vulnerable locations, while conducting targeted clearance operations to dislodge criminal networks.

These ongoing efforts have led to the disruption of criminal activities, the recovery of weapons, and an enhanced security presence across the affected communities. Residents have also been cautioned against spreading false or unverified information, with the command urging the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate updates. CP Emenari reassured the public of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stating that anyone found guilty of criminal acts will be brought to justice.
