An Iranian embassy has recently shared an AI-generated video that portrays Jesus casting Donald Trump into hell. This video emerged in response to backlash over a controversial social media post made by the former US president. On Sunday, Trump posted an image on Truth Social that depicted him with a glowing hand, seemingly healing a man who was kneeling before him. However, the post was deleted the following day after it faced widespread criticism. Trump later claimed he had not recognized the religious implications of the image.
The original image had first appeared in February, shared by author Nick Adams, who captioned it: “America has been sick for a long time. President Trump is healing this nation.” Trump’s version of the image was slightly altered. On Tuesday, the Iranian embassy in Tajikistan released a video that begins with the same image. In this clip, the glow from Trump’s hands fades as Jesus descends from heaven, slaps him across the face, and sends him tumbling into a fiery abyss. Notably, the video had already been circulating online before its reposting by the embassy.
This incident has sparked similar interpretations elsewhere, with some depictions showing Jesus angrily expelling Trump as a “moneymaker” from the Temple of Jerusalem, echoing a well-known story from the Gospels. Others have illustrated scenarios in which Jesus violently intervenes in Trump’s life, including images of him being punched. Critics of Trump have utilized AI tools to create multiple scenarios that depict these confrontations.
The controversy surrounding the video coincided with Trump’s criticism of Pope Leo, whom he accused of being “WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy.” These remarks have strained relations with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who typically supports Trump but described his comments as unacceptable. This incident underscores the increasing use of AI-generated content in political discourse and highlights the sensitivities surrounding religious imagery in public debate.
