Factional National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala Gombe, has rejected a purported suspension by the David Mark-led faction of the party, insisting that the faction lacks the authority to take disciplinary action against him.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, Gombe maintained that the matter is already before a court of law, rendering any internal suspension invalid. “The David Mark-led faction does not have any power to suspend me. Our matter is still in court,” he said.
His remarks follow the Mark-led faction’s reported expulsion of both Gombe and Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives. The internal dispute underscores deepening factional divisions within the ADC.
The controversy comes amid broader turmoil within the party. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently stripped David Mark of his position as national chairman, citing procedural irregularities. This move has further complicated the party’s leadership structure and intensified political infighting.
Gombe’s stance signals a continued legal and political battle over control of the ADC, with both factions likely to pursue their claims through the courts. The outcome could have significant implications for the party’s unity and participation in future electoral contests.
As the dispute unfolds, political analysts note that such internal conflicts risk weakening the ADC’s position in Nigeria’s competitive political landscape, especially with national elections on the horizon.
