Africa Startup Podcast Unpacks Funding, Risk & Policy

Tutto Passa Agency, a communications firm that works with startups and investment funds, and TechCabal, a pan‑African technology publication, have announced a joint podcast series that will examine the decisions, challenges and opportunities involved in building and financing companies across Africa.

The 14‑episode series, titled “Voices & Visions: Profiling Africa’s Business Pulse,” will be hosted by Ivana Heijnen, founder of Tutto Passa Agency. The first season focuses on Nairobi, a leading hub for venture capital, fintech, logistics and energy ventures in East Africa. Episodes will be released bi‑weekly through September, with the full launch slated for later this year. The podcast will be available on major streaming platforms, including Spotify, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

The partnership reflects a growing consensus among investors and ecosystem participants that Africa suffers from a “narrative gap” – a lack of nuanced, credible storytelling that accurately represents the continent’s diverse markets. Heijnen said, “Capital doesn’t move where complexity is misread. What’s missing is infrastructure for credible, nuanced narratives that reflect how ecosystems actually function.”

Over the past decade Africa’s startup sector has expanded rapidly, with firms emerging in payments, logistics, renewable energy and financial services. Despite this growth, many global investors and policymakers continue to view the continent as a monolithic market, overlooking differences in regulatory regimes, capital markets and consumer behaviour. The resulting information asymmetry often forces founders and fund managers to spend weeks clarifying market dynamics instead of developing products, slowing deal flow and influencing investment decisions.

“Voices & Visions” aims to document how capital, governance and trust interact within a single ecosystem. By concentrating on Nairobi, the series will explore the coexistence of early‑stage venture capital with established financial institutions, the integration of startups into energy and climate initiatives, and the ways cross‑border capital is structured. Guests will include founders, investors, small‑business owners, regulators and media professionals. The podcast will prioritize deeper analysis over headline valuations, concentrating on institution‑building, financing structures and the local realities that shape scaling strategies.

For TechCabal, the collaboration extends its editorial focus on ecosystem analysis for policymakers, financiers and international audiences. In addition to the audio series, the publication will publish complementary articles that unpack the themes discussed in each episode. Newsroom Editor Ganiu Oloruntade emphasized that rigorous storytelling “shapes how capital moves, how policy gets made, and how founders are perceived when they walk into rooms,” and that the partnership allows for coverage beyond the constraints of daily news cycles.

The project is presented as a form of “public‑good communication infrastructure,” intended to influence both perception and decision‑making. While improved narratives cannot alone resolve structural challenges such as currency volatility, regulatory fragmentation or limited exit opportunities, the series seeks to reduce the information gap that often hinders investment. Success could help align African entrepreneurs and global capital by providing clearer, more accurate insights into market dynamics.
