Three security personnel were killed and two others wounded after an armed assault on Tenobo village in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria, on the night of 1 May. The attack, attributed to suspected terrorists, was confirmed in a post on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 01:10 a.m. when a group of gunmen entered the community and opened fire on security operatives stationed in the area. According to local sources, members of the 22 Brigade, together with other security personnel, forest guards and vigilantes, responded promptly after a distress alert was raised.
Preliminary reports indicate that three security personnel lost their lives during the confrontation. Two Mobile Police officers were also shot; they survived but required medical attention. The attackers fled the scene carrying two AK‑47 rifles and a riot gun, according to Makama’s statement.
The deceased officers and the injured officers were transferred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for emergency treatment and post‑mortem procedures.
In the aftermath, state security agencies launched follow‑up operations aimed at locating the assailants and recovering the stolen weapons. The operation underscores ongoing security challenges in north‑central Nigeria, where insurgent and criminal groups have increasingly targeted rural communities and security installations.
Kwara State authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law‑enforcement efforts. The incident adds to a series of recent attacks in the region, prompting calls for reinforced patrols and better intelligence sharing among security agencies.
As investigations continue, officials stress that the swift response of the 22 Brigade and allied forces prevented further casualties. The focus now shifts to apprehending those responsible and restoring stability to Tenobo village and surrounding areas.
