Fintiri reshuffles cabinet, appoints Leader Leneke as Commissioner of Information

Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri announced a modest reshuffle of his state cabinet on Wednesday evening, appointing Leader Leneke as the new Commissioner for Information and Strategy. The change follows the resignation of James Iliya, who stepped down to pursue a bid for the Demsa seat in the state House of Assembly.

The reshuffle also saw two commissioners exchange portfolios. Sali Idris, who had been overseeing the Ministry of Livestock, moved to head the Ministry of Agriculture. In return, Professor David Jatau transferred from Agriculture to take charge of Livestock. Because Professor Jatau is currently on sick leave, Usman Lamurde, the Commissioner for Special Duties, will temporarily manage the Livestock Ministry until his return.

In another shift, Muhammad Chubado, formerly the Commissioner for Energy Development, was reassigned to the Ministry of Health and Human Services.

Governor Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, confirmed that the adjustments are intended to improve coordination among ministries and maintain continuity in service delivery. No further changes to the cabinet were disclosed.

The realignment reflects the governor’s effort to streamline his administration ahead of ongoing development initiatives in Adamawa State, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, livestock, health and information. Observers note that the temporary oversight of the Livestock Ministry by the Special Duties Commissioner underscores the administration’s focus on ensuring critical functions remain uninterrupted despite health-related absences.

The governor’s office has not indicated any additional reshuffles, and the new commissioners are expected to assume their duties immediately. Future updates will be provided as the interim arrangements conclude and the full cabinet settles into its revised configuration.
