Abuja, May 15 – The All Progressives Congress (APC) announced a shift in its timetable for the House of Representatives primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the primary for the lower chamber will now be conducted on Saturday, 16 May 2026.
Morka clarified that the dates previously set for the other APC primaries – the Senate, state houses of assembly, governorship and presidential contests – remain unchanged. The revised schedule places the Senate primary on Monday, 18 May, the state house of assembly contests on Wednesday, 20 May, the governorship primaries on Thursday, 21 May, and the presidential primary on Saturday, 23 May.
The adjustment comes as the party seeks to streamline its internal electoral processes while maintaining the broader timetable agreed upon by the national executive. Party officials indicated that the decision was taken to avoid logistical clashes and to ensure that delegates and candidates have sufficient preparation time for each stage of the selection exercise.
The APC’s primary calendar is a critical component of Nigeria’s electoral landscape, shaping the slate of candidates that will contest the country’s next general election. By confirming that only the House of Representatives primary has been moved, the party signals continuity in its overall roadmap while addressing specific operational considerations for the lower‑house race.
Stakeholders, including aspirants and party operatives, are expected to align their campaigns with the new date. The party’s national secretariat has urged all participants to adhere to the revised schedule and to cooperate fully with the electoral committees tasked with overseeing the primaries.
As the APC moves forward with its primaries, the adjustments underscore the fluid nature of party preparations in the run‑up to national elections. Observers will watch how the revised timetable influences candidate selection dynamics and whether it impacts the party’s broader electoral strategy ahead of the 2027 polls.
