No fewer than three people lost their lives and two others sustained injuries when a truck lost control at the toll‑gate area on the Lagos‑Abeokuta Expressway. The incident, which occurred at about 7:35 p.m., involved six persons, two vehicles and two motorcycles. A truck carrying bags of cement was traveling inbound on the Abeokuta‑Lagos Expressway when brake failure caused it to ram two vehicles and two bajaj motorcycles.
Mr. Ahmed Umar, the Ogun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the accident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun State. He explained that the victims who died were either traders or people waiting for buses. One person escaped unhurt, while two others suffered varying degrees of injury.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue of General Hospital, Ifo, and the injured are receiving treatment at General Hospital, Ota. The sector commander attributed the crash to excessive speeding and urged motorists to refrain from speeding and to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before taking to the roads, in order to prevent avoidable accidents.
