Adamawa Woman Killed, Head Taken in Suspected Ritual Murder

A 38-year-old deaf woman, Susuti Denhan, has been killed and decapitated in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State, in what residents and local sources describe as a suspected ritual murder. The attack occurred on Friday, August 21, in the Unguwan Abuja community, where a similar killing was reported earlier in the week.

Denhan left her home on Friday and failed to return, prompting her family to organize a search party. Her body, missing its head, was discovered on a nearby mountain on Saturday. The gruesome discovery has intensified fear in Girei, a community already on edge after the previous incident, which bore similar hallmarks.

The Adamawa State Police Command had not released an official statement on the case as of Saturday evening. Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into both killings, which residents believe may be linked to ritual practices.

The back-to-back attacks highlight persistent security gaps in parts of northeastern Nigeria, where isolated communities often lack rapid police response. Local leaders have called for increased patrols and community-based vigilance to deter further violence. Police have yet to confirm a motive or identify suspects in either case.
