Ebonyi LG Chairman Advocates for 50% Women Appointment in Tinubu and Nwifuru’s Administrations

The Chairman of Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Mrs Euphemia Nwali, has called for a 50 percent appointment of women in politics into the administrations of President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Francis Nwifuru, the Governor-elect of Ebonyi State, on May 29, 2023.

Mrs Nwali made this call during a press briefing after the stone foundation laying of a train station construction of the rail line from Abakaliki to the International Airport, Ezza South, Onueke. Tinubu and Nwifuru, who belong to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other governors-elect from various states, will be inaugurated on May 29, 2023.

According to Mrs Nwali, it’s important for women to participate in governance and contribute their quota to the development and building of peace in Nigeria. She urged leaders of the nation, especially in the Southeast geopolitical zone, to give women a chance to participate in the development of the country.

She further called on the political leaders of the region to support Tinubu, saying, “Before now, we have 35 percent (35%) of women appointed into political positions, but now, we demand for fifty percent (50%) appointment. If the coming administration will give us this percentage, we will be happy. This is because if you empower a woman, you empower a nation.”

Mrs Nwali also encouraged women in politics across the country to work hard, be transparent, and dedicated to their duties as a means of bringing reforms to the nation’s leadership.

She urged Tinubu to ensure the total inclusion of the Southeast zone in the political scheme of things, adding that the zone should be treated equally with other regions of the country.

“Southeast zone should be carried along in the national politics. They should be treated to have equal opportunity with other zones of the Federation. We are part of Nigeria, and as such, whatever that is done to other regions should as well be done to the Southeast zone,” she emphasized.

In summary, Mrs Euphemia Nwali, the Chairman of Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has advocated for a 50% appointment of women in the political administrations of Tinubu and Nwifuru, emphasizing the need for women’s inclusion in governance.
