The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is currently in severe pain and urgently requires an ear surgery, says Separatist Simon Ekpa, the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE).
In a statement via Twitter on Wednesday, Ekpa said that Kanu instructed him to bring the matter to the attention of the world that his ear infection is deteriorating and that he is in urgent need of medical attention.
Ekpa added that Nnamdi Kanu also expressed displeasure over the Nigerian Government’s consistent refusal to obey the court order on his release.
He accused the Nigerian judiciary of aiding in the deliberate delay of Nnamdi Kanu’s trial, stressing that the infection has now affected both the left and right ears of the IPOB leader.
The Finland-based lawyer revealed that the Department of State Services (DSS) finally brought a doctor, who confirmed that urgent surgery was required as Kanu was in severe pain and could hardly sleep.
“Our leader also instructed me to alert the world that any time his case is coming up, either in Nigeria or outside Nigeria. The world should also know that this is the first time a superior Court of Record – the Court of Appeal, has given judgment and discharge to someone and then through another panel instructs the authorities of the Government not to obey the judgment by granting an unknown stay of execution to the Government authorities,” Ekpa wrote.
Nnamdi Kanu was re-arrested in 2019 by the Nigerian Government. Despite several court orders, President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has refused to grant him bail.
