The Nigerian Senate announced on Wednesday that an official communication would be sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, informing him of the election of Senators Godswill Akpabio and Jibrin Barau as Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively.

Following hours of closed-door meetings, the Senate President emphasized the importance of this communication, stating that it was necessary to inform the President about the 10th Senate’s activities. He further explained that the 10th Senate was prepared to receive executive communication, having been inaugurated on Tuesday.

In addition, the Red Chamber resolved to communicate with international parliamentary bodies regarding the assembly of the 10th Senate. Consequently, a congratulatory message would also be sent to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives on their election.

Meanwhile, the Senate established a committee, chaired by Senator Isa Jibrin, to address the welfare of its members. Despite this development, the Senate did not provide any information regarding the appointment of the Senate leader and other principal officers. As a result, the Senate adjourned its sitting until July 4.
