Anglican Bishop Urges Nigerians to Prioritize Essential Spending Amid Subsidy Removal

The Anglican Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Rt Rev Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, has urged Nigerians, particularly the breadwinners of households, to exercise financial prudence and focus on essential needs amidst the removal of fuel subsidy.

During the celebration of this year’s Fathers’ Sunday in Umuahia Diocese, Bishop Ibeabuchi delivered a message encouraging fathers to be mindful of their spending habits in order to mitigate the impact of the subsidy removal on their families.

While acknowledging the economic challenges posed by the government’s decision, the Bishop emphasized that fathers and providers should not neglect the needs of their families during this period.

Expressing gratitude for God’s preservation amidst socieconomic difficulties, Bishop Ibeabuchi commended the vital contributions of fathers to the Church and Nigerian society, extending gratitude to their wives and children for their unwavering support.

He stated, “In this dispensation of removal of fuel subsidy and its attendant hardship and stress, we encourage breadwinners and fathers to remain resolute, be prudent in the management of their resources, and spend only on essential commodities.

“However, no man is allowed to neglect his family no matter the situation. God will help us and strengthen us in Jesus’ name.”

The Bishop also expressed concern over the growing number of Nigerian youth seeking better opportunities abroad, stating that many would have preferred to remain in Nigeria and contribute to the nation’s development if leaders prioritized addressing the country’s challenges.
