The Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar Namadi, has paid an unscheduled visit to the state’s hospitals to ascertain the quality of services being offered to patients.
He, however, expressed dismay on Monday During his visit to the General Hospital, Dutse, early in the morning.
The governor’s visit may not be unconnected to public outcry over the poor services in most of the hospitals across the state.
According to the statement signed by Hamisu Muhammad, his Director of Press, Gov Namadi was not happy with the deplorable condition of the hospital.
The statement reads in part: “In some sections, there was no light as both staff and patients were sitting in the dark, and in some patient wards, there were no window nets to prevent mosquitoes.
“The governor was also upset to find out that patients—even under-fives—were being sold drugs in the hospital in contravention of the State Government’s policy of free healthcare to under-five-year-old children in the state.”
The governor frowned at the lackadaisical attitude of the hospital’s management and warned that such behaviour would not be condoned any more.
Media Talk Africa reports that the previous administration claimed it had increased the monthly funding for free medical health care services from N15 million to N75 million.
