Lagos Tribunal Judgement: Labour Party Expresses Dismay, Announces Plan to Appeal

In response to Monday’s judgement of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State has expressed deep concern.

Speaking on behalf of the party, Olubunmi Odesanya, the State Publicity Secretary, released a statement on Tuesday where she called on party loyalists to remain calm as the party continues to pursue justice.

Odesanya stated, “We listened to the judgement of the Lagos State election tribunal delivered yesterday, September 25, with utmost dismay. We urge our teeming supporters to remain calm while we pursue the next line of action.”

At this point, she emphasized that LP Candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV) and the LP in Lagos State have instructed the party’s legal team to review the judgement for the possibility of appealing it at the appeal court.

Odesanya further asserted that despite the harassment and intimidation faced by the party’s supporters, there is an unwavering belief within the party that they were the rightful winners of the election.

She confidently stated, “This delayed justice will be rightfully regained in the fullness of time. Our party will explore all legal means to rectify the wrongs done to the majority of Lagos residents.”

In a recap of the tribunal’s decision, the three-man panel led by Justice Arum Ashom unanimously affirmed the election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat in the March 18 gubernatorial election. The panel dismissed the two petitions filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, as well as Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP).
