Ligue 1: Lille boss tasks Akpom to improve despite scoring debut

Lille manager, Bruno Genesio has tasked Chuba Akpom to keep working hard despite his impressive debut for the club.

Akpom scored in Lille’s 2-1 home defeat to Le Havre at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Saturday night.

The 29-year-old made history as the fourth Nigerian to score on his Ligue 1 debut.

The forward followed in the foot steps of Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen and Terem Moffi.

Genesio challenged Akpom to find his feet as soon as possible.

“Scoring is always a good sign for a striker. Chuba was opportunistic in this action. He is a player who still has to find his feet with us,” he told the club’s official website.

“He still has to assimilate certain principles and what is asked of him here. It is good that he scored, it can only increase his confidence and bring us something extra for the end of the season.”
