The Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, has emphasized the need for outstanding performance to be rewarded and negligence of duty to be addressed in the state’s education sector. This directive was given during the 2025 Best Teachers Award Ceremony, organized by the State Science and Technical Education Board, which took place at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall, State Secretariat, in Dutse.
Governor Namadi described the award ceremony as a significant initiative in promoting quality teaching and learning in the state’s schools. He highlighted the importance of recognizing and celebrating excellence in teaching, stating that it is essential to acknowledge and reward those who excel, while also addressing poor performance.
The Governor urged other education bodies, including the Senior Secondary School Management Board and the Islamic Education Bureau, to introduce similar award schemes to motivate teachers across all sectors. He commended the Science and Technical Schools Board for organizing the award ceremony, emphasizing that excellence in teaching is critical to achieving quality education.
Governor Namadi also stressed that infrastructure alone is not enough to drive educational development, and that competent and motivated teachers are essential. To address this, the state government has embarked on the recruitment of teachers at all levels, aiming to reduce the student-teacher ratio in schools. Additionally, the government is investing in the training and retraining of teachers to keep them up-to-date with new ideas and developments in the education sector.
The Governor assured continued government commitment to supporting the education sector, promising sustained investment in both human capital and infrastructure development. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the state’s education system, as it aims to promote quality teaching and learning, and ultimately improve educational outcomes for students in Jigawa State. With this initiative, the state government is taking a step towards addressing the challenges facing the education sector and ensuring that students receive a high-quality education.
