Zamfara APC Leaders Sue Party Over Suspension

Party chieftain reveals reasons for mass defection to APC in Abia

A group of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Zamfara State have filed a lawsuit against the party, challenging their suspension from the APC. The suit, instituted at the State High Court in Gusau, was filed by Babangida Aliyu Shinkafi, APC chairman of Shinkafi South Ward, and three other party leaders. They were suspended for attending a stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front on November 11, 2025.

The plaintiffs are seeking a court declaration that they are bona fide members of the APC and that their suspension is unconstitutional, illegal, and null and void. They are also seeking an order of perpetual injunction to prevent the defendants from taking further steps to suspend, expel, or intimidate them. The affected leaders claim that they were elected at the APC congress in 2022 and that their tenures are still subsisting.

According to the plaintiffs, they were orally suspended by Alhaji Ibrahim Bama Shinkafi, the APC chairman of Shinkafi Local Government, without just cause or reasonable grounds. They allege that they were not given an opportunity to defend themselves, and all efforts to stop their suspension failed, prompting them to seek redress in court.

The lawsuit is the latest development in the ongoing crisis within the Zamfara State APC, which has been plagued by internal conflicts and power struggles since its defeat in the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections. The party’s woes have been attributed to the imposition of candidates, suspension, and expulsion of party leaders and members.

The APC leaders who filed the lawsuit belong to the political camp of Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, the leader of the Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front. Their counsel, Bello Idris Galadi and Associates, filed the suit on November 14, 2025. The court’s decision on the matter is expected to have significant implications for the APC in Zamfara State, which is struggling to regain its footing after successive electoral defeats. The outcome of the lawsuit may also shed light on the internal dynamics of the party and the ongoing power struggles within its ranks.
