Nigeria security improves with US support

A United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has expressed confidence in the Federal Government’s efforts to address Nigeria’s worsening security challenges. Following a meeting between a US congressional delegation and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu in Abuja, Mr. Moore described the engagement as “productive and positive.” The congressman noted that several concrete measures were discussed, which, if implemented, would significantly improve security nationwide.

The talks focused on strategies to dismantle terrorist networks in the North-East, enhance protection for vulnerable communities, and address killings in the Middle Belt. Mr. Moore stated that the discussions covered “concrete steps and actions” that, if fully executed, would enhance security across the country, disrupt terrorist organizations, and stop the killing of Christians, a concern shared by the US President and himself.

The US has expressed a heightened sense of urgency regarding Nigeria’s security situation, which is understood by Nigerian authorities. A newly established Nigeria-US joint task force offers a promising path toward deeper security cooperation. Mr. Moore noted that the Nigerian government has shown openness and willingness to strengthen collaboration with the US, but emphasized that this goodwill must translate into concrete and sustained action.

The congressman commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the rescue of over 100 abducted Catholic schoolchildren, describing the operation as a “positive demonstration” of the administration’s responsiveness. He added that although substantial work remains to be done, recent engagements signal that progress is being made.

Mr. Moore expressed optimism about the next phase of discussions with Nigerian authorities and reaffirmed the US delegation’s commitment to “continued open dialogue” aimed at restoring peace and stability across the country. The US congressman’s visit and the subsequent meeting with Nigerian officials highlight the importance of international cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges. As the country continues to grapple with insecurity, the collaboration between the US and Nigeria is expected to yield positive outcomes in the coming months.
