Edo: Gov Okpebholo, PDP on collision course over $10m Nigerian Observer probe

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has been urged to unite and work toward winning the 2026 governorship election. Edo State Governor and Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, Godwin Obaseki, made the call during a stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo on Friday night. The gathering emphasized the party’s commitment to internal democracy ahead of Saturday’s primary election.

Governor Obaseki announced that the primary will use the affirmation method, with all 1,660 delegates undergoing proper accreditation before entering the venue. He appealed for calm and cohesion, warning that post‑primary divisions could weaken the party’s chances in the general election. “Our collective goal is to return Osun State to the progressive family in 2026, and that can only be achieved if we work together,” he said.

The governor assured party members that the primary will be conducted transparently and fairly, in strict compliance with the directive of the APC National Working Committee (NWC). He stressed that internal grievances must not hinder the party’s progress. The APC is seeking to regain control of Osun State, which it lost in the last governorship election, and its leadership has been working to reconcile members and strengthen the party’s structure ahead of 2026.

With the primary scheduled for Saturday, the APC is gearing up to select its candidate for the governorship seat. The outcome of the primary is expected to be crucial in determining the party’s prospects in the 2026 election. As the APC strives to regain its foothold in Osun State, presenting a united front will be essential to winning back the state. Party leaders have promised a free and fair primary, and political observers and party faithful alike await the results with anticipation.
