PDP Inaugurates 17-Man Caretaker Committee in Oyo State

The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a 17-member caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP had earlier approved the appointment of the committee, which is chaired by Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso and has Dr. Biola Olanipekun as its secretary.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Ibadan, the state capital, was attended by the National Women Leader, Professor Olanike Ogunse, who represented the National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Abdulraman Mohammed. Other attendees included committee members and party chieftains from the 33 local government areas of the state.

In his remarks, Mohammed charged the committee members to discharge their duties in accordance with the party’s constitution. Akinoso, in his acceptance speech, pledged to entrench the principles of participatory democracy in membership mobilization and delegate elections. He emphasized the need for transparency and fairness in all party processes, stating that these values are essential for the party’s success.

The committee’s mandate includes ensuring that all party processes, including membership mobilization, delegate elections, and leadership representation, are transparent, fair, and in line with the party’s constitution. The committee is scheduled to commence its activities on January 9, 2026, as directed by the NWC.

Akinoso, who has experience as a former youth leader and trade unionist, as well as a public servant with over 30 years of experience, expressed his commitment to leading the committee to success. He assured that all stakeholders, including leaders, members, women, and youths, would be consulted and their interests taken into account in decision-making.

The committee’s inauguration comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, and Akinoso reiterated that the party’s activities would be guided by the rule of law and the party’s constitution. He also reminded members of the dissolved Oyo State executive committee to hand over party properties to the newly constituted caretaker committee, in line with the decision taken at the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting of the PDP.
