FCT Minister Wike Urges Responsible Voting in Area Council Elections

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has urged residents to exercise their votes responsibly in the upcoming Area Council elections, emphasizing the importance of citizen participation in strengthening democracy. In his 2026 New Year message, Wike commended residents for their resilience and cooperation with the FCT Administration over the past year and extended warm New Year greetings.

The Minister described the forthcoming elections as a key responsibility of citizens, stating that participating in free, fair, and peaceful elections is essential for accountable governance at the local level. He assured residents that the FCT Administration is committed to providing a safe and fair environment for the elections, which will take place across the Territory’s six Area Councils. Measures will be taken to prevent violence, malpractice, or disruption to the electoral process.

Beyond the elections, Wike highlighted the significance of 2026 as a time to build on past achievements. The FCT Administration has laid the groundwork for projects in critical sectors such as education, health, transport, security, agriculture, and the judiciary.
