President Bola Tinubu formally submitted his presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination (EIN) forms to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday, signalling his intent to seek a second term in the 2027 election.
The paperwork was delivered to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja by Vice President Kashim Shettima. Earlier in the week, Member of the House of Representatives James Faleke collected the forms on Tinubu’s behalf after the party released them to aspirants. The APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, handed the documents to Faleke following the opening of the sales period for presidential candidates.
The submission was accompanied by the required party fee of N100 million, confirming Tinubu’s compliance with APC regulations. The ceremony, which remains in progress at the party’s headquarters, was attended by senior officials, including the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka. Morka noted that the filing demonstrates Tinubu’s eligibility and readiness to contest the party’s presidential ticket for 2027.
Tinubu, who was first elected president in 2023, has not yet outlined a detailed campaign platform for his re‑election bid. The APC, Nigeria’s ruling party, has yet to schedule a primary election to determine its presidential candidate. The submission of the EIN forms is a prerequisite for participation in that process.
The move comes amid heightened scrutiny of the APC’s internal mechanisms and calls for greater transparency in the selection of candidates. Observers note that the party’s handling of the nomination process could influence its cohesion ahead of the general election.
As the APC prepares for its presidential primaries, Tinubu’s filing marks a definitive step toward a potential second term, setting the stage for internal party contests and broader electoral dynamics in Nigeria’s 2027 political calendar.
