Lagos, Nigeria – The 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) concluded on Saturday evening at the Eko Hotel and Suites, recognizing outstanding achievements in African film, television and digital storytelling. The ceremony, live‑streamed online, presented winners across 45 categories, highlighting the continent’s growing creative industries.
In the acting categories, Bucci Franklin secured the Best Supporting Actor award for To Kill A Monkey, while Linda Ejiofor won Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Herd. The lead‑acting honours went to Uzor Arukwe, who was named Best Lead Actor for Colours Of Fire, and Linda Ejiofor again, this time as Best Lead Actress for The Serpent’s Gift.
Akinola Davies Jr. received the Best Director trophy for My Father’s Shadow, which also took home the Best Overall Movie award. In the indigenous‑language segment, Lisabi: A Legend Is Born was voted Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), Addis Fikir won for East Africa, Tlhaho Ya Mosadi for South Africa, Artal Alhanin: Our Memories for North Africa, and Mabanda for Central Africa.
Digital content creators were recognised, with Emmanuel Kanaga and Sophia Chisom named Best Digital Content Creator. The Low Priest earned the Best Scripted M‑Net Original, while Nigerian Idol season 10 claimed the Best Unscripted M‑Net Original title. Inimba was honoured as the Best Indigenous M‑Net Original.
The short‑film competition highlighted Hussaini as the winner, and My Father’s Shadow secured Best Cinematography (Jermaine Edwards) and Best Sound Design (Pius Fatoke and CJ Mirra). Daniel Anyiam’s editing work on To Kill A Monkey and the music score by Xavier Ighorodje for Gingerrr also received top honours.
Documentary filmmakers were celebrated with Beyond Olympic Glory taking Best Documentary. In the series categories, Inimba won Best Scripted Series, and Nigerian Idol again emerged victorious as Best Unscripted Series.
Special recognitions were presented to industry veterans. Uche Montana received the Trailblazer Award, while Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo were honoured with the Industry Merit Award.
The 12th AMVCA underscored the diversity and dynamism of African screen content, reinforcing the continent’s expanding influence in global entertainment. The awards continue to provide a platform for emerging talent and established creators alike, fostering cross‑border collaborations and encouraging investment in Africa’s creative economy.
