The All Progressives Congress in Kebbi State has named Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as the new running mate to Governor Nasir Idris for the 2027 governorship election, replacing incumbent Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida Argungu.
The announcement was made on Sunday at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi by the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, during a thank-you visit by stakeholders from the Argungu Emirate to the governor.
Suleiman said the decision followed professional legal advice regarding the eligibility of Senator Argungu to serve as running mate in the next election. “The present Deputy Governor was dropped as the running mate to Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for the 2027 general election based on professional legal advice,” he said.
He emphasized that the change was reached with the understanding and consent of Senator Argungu, insisting there was no disagreement between the governor and his deputy. Suleiman called on party members, politicians and supporters across the state to accept the development and work together for the party’s success in 2027.
Speaking to journalists after the event, Governor Idris dismissed any suggestion of a rift with his deputy. He pledged to work closely with the new running mate and urged unity and focus on the development of the state.
Ibrahim Muhammad Augie served as Commissioner for Finance during the administration of former Governor Atiku Bagudu. He hails from Augie Local Government Area.
Governor Idris expressed appreciation to the people of the Argungu Emirate for their continued support and cooperation with his administration.
