Fifteen people were rescued and transported to Kura General Hospital for medical attention after a DAF trailer carrying passengers and goods crashed on the Kano-Zaria Road early Sunday morning. The accident occurred around Gadan Yankifi at approximately 5:00 a.m., temporarily obstructing traffic on the major highway.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Sector Command said its rescue team reached the scene within five minutes of receiving the distress call. No fatalities were recorded in the crash, according to the Sector Public Education Officer, CRC AA Labaran. “No death was recorded in the crash, while a total of 15 persons were rescued and evacuated to Kura General Hospital for medical attention,” Labaran said.
Following the incident, Sector Commander CC IM Lawal deployed the Corps’ tow truck to assist in clearing the wreckage and restoring the free flow of traffic. The obstruction had caused delays on the busy route, which connects two key commercial hubs in northern Nigeria.
The FRSC urged motorists using the Kano-Zaria Road to exercise patience, reduce speed when approaching the affected area, and adhere strictly to traffic regulations. “Motorists are advised to cooperate with FRSC personnel and other emergency responders at the scene as efforts continue to completely clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic flow,” Labaran added.
The crash underscores persistent safety challenges on Nigeria’s inter-state highways, where mixed-use vehicles — often overloaded with both passengers and cargo — remain common despite regulatory efforts. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the accident, but investigations are expected to determine whether speed, vehicle condition, or driver error played a role.

The Corps reiterated its commitment to rapid response and public safety, urging all road users to prioritize caution, especially during early morning hours when visibility and driver alertness may be reduced.
