Residents of Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, are gearing up for a demonstration to protest against inadequate power supply and exorbitant electricity bills. The planned peaceful protest will be held at the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) office along Makurdi road.
Tensions escalated following an alleged assault on an AEDC staff member during an attempt to disconnect power supply to a neighborhood. This incident sparked a confrontation between residents and the DisCo workers in Lafia, underscoring the depth of frustration with the current situation.
The organizers of the protest are urging residents to stand in solidarity and demand resolution to the town’s power crisis, along with fair billing practices. In a statement, they declared, “We are exasperated. Change is overdue, and your participation is crucial to effecting it. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter future for our town.”
The protest, slated for Tuesday, February 20, aims to shed light on the hardships faced by residents and advocate for improved services from the electricity distribution company.
