The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has reiterated the Central Bank of Nigeria’s assurance that the country’s banking sector remains sound and safe. CIBN noted that the Central Bank, as the authority best equipped to evaluate the strength of Nigeria’s financial industry, has repeatedly confirmed this soundness.
The institute also sought to dispel concerns about a shortage of materials for printing new naira notes. It cited a widely circulated press release from the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company, which labeled the story as false, baseless, and misleading, and highlighted that the Central Bank has similarly discredited the claim.
Ken Okpara, President of the CIBN Council, urged Nigerians to disregard any contrary information. He emphasized that the entire banking community remains focused, committed, and working around the clock to address ongoing issues and restore normalcy.
