The National Directorate of Employment has launched a five‑day management training program for 65 artisans in Asaba, the capital of Delta State. The Director General of NDE, Mr. Abubarkar Fikpo, could not attend personally and was represented by the acting Director of NDE Delta State, Mr. Sylvanus Onyeogo.
Mr. Onyeogo explained that the training is part of NDE’s effort to combat business failure. “Basic business training was designed by the NDE to teach artisans and school leavers the rudimentary aspects of business management,” he said. “Being highly skilled in a vocation does not preclude a micro‑business operator from failure; acquiring business management skills does.” He added that the program targets the lack of managerial skills among entrants to the informal sector, which often leads to business collapse.
Ms. Chikodi Ike, Head of the Small Scale Enterprises Department, praised the participants for their perseverance, noting, “It is not easy for you at this point in time, considering the economic situation in Nigeria.”
