Former MLB pitcher, Octavio Dotel is dead

Octavio Dotel, a longtime MLB pitcher, has died at the age of 51.

Dotel, who played for both the Mets and Yankees, passed away after the roof at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic collapsed on him.

The disaster also killed at least 44 people and injured 160 others on Tuesday.

According to MLB reporter Hector Gomez, Dotel was pulled alive from the Jet Set nightclub in the Dominican capital of Santo Domingo, but he died while being transported to a hospital.

The head of the emergency operations center, Gen. Juan Manuel Mendez, also confirmed the details of Dotel’s death to Noticias SIN.

Meanwhile, the cause of the roof collapse remains unclear as of the time of this report.

Dotel played 15 seasons and won a World Series in 2011.
