Kano lawmaker, Doguwa alleges persistent attacks on APC members, as police invite suspects

A Nigerian lawmaker has accused a local government chairperson in Kano State of sponsoring attacks on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Alhassan Doguwa, a member of the House of Representatives, alleged that Sa’adatu Salisu, who chairs the Tudun Wada Local Government Area and the state chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), was behind the violence.

Doguwa said suspected thugs invaded a factory in Tudun Wada on 28 August, injuring workers who are mainly APC members. He noted that this incident is part of a series of attacks on APC members in the state and stressed that such actions are unacceptable and threaten the stability of Nigeria’s democracy.

The alleged attacks have raised concerns about the safety of political party members in Kano State. Doguwa’s accusation highlights the need for authorities to investigate the violence and uphold the rule of law, protecting citizens regardless of political affiliation.

In recent years, Nigeria has experienced instances of political violence, especially during election periods, as intense competition between major parties, including the APC, shapes the political landscape. As the nation prepares for future elections, ensuring the safety of party members and preventing violence will be crucial for maintaining democratic stability.

The accusation against Salisu carries significant implications for the political climate in Kano State and Nigeria as a whole. As the investigation unfolds, it is essential for authorities to remain impartial and take concrete steps to prevent further violence. By doing so, Nigeria can promote a culture of peaceful political engagement and protect the well‑being of its citizens.
