2027: You’ve 24 hours to clear air over fraternity with ADC - APGA tells Abaribe

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has issued a 24‑hour ultimatum to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, demanding clarification of his alleged affiliation with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The party’s demand follows rumors that Abaribe may be defecting to the ADC. In a statement released after a caucus meeting in Umuahia, APGA expressed concern that the senator could be involved in a dual‑membership situation, which the party deems unacceptable.

APGA alleges that Abaribe has abandoned the party and shown disdain for its leadership, despite having used the APGA platform to secure a fifth term in the Senate. The statement, signed by APGA’s Publicity Secretary Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, referenced two meetings allegedly held by Abaribe at his event centre in Aba, where he purportedly promoted the ADC instead of APGA. The party has challenged Abaribe to confirm or deny the rumors surrounding his possible defection.

In response, Abaribe’s media aide, Uchenna Awom, advised APGA to stop relying on unverified rumors and to communicate directly with the senator. Awom noted that APGA already has established channels to reach Abaribe, who serves as the party’s leader in Abia State, and should use those channels to address any concerns. He emphasized that the senator is aware of the proper procedures for switching parties and will handle any such move accordingly.

Awom added that Abaribe has not formally communicated any intention to leave APGA and urged the party to refrain from attempting to coerce a statement from him. The controversy has heightened tensions within APGA as the party seeks clarity on the senator’s political allegiance. As the 24‑hour deadline approaches, it remains uncertain how Abaribe will respond and what implications his decision may have for his standing within the party.
