Nigeria’s insecurity crisis has reached a boiling point, according to Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s 2023 presidential candidate. In an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” Adebayo asserted that President Bola Tinubu has lost control of his administration and that the government must acknowledge its role in enabling the current security situation.

Adebayo argued that Nigeria possesses the tools needed to combat violent crime and rising insecurity, but the government’s failure to use these resources effectively has allowed the crisis to deepen. He noted that governmental inaction has permitted criminal activities to continue unabated, with ransom money flowing freely through the system. Consequently, he urged President Tinubu to reorganize the country’s security architecture.

The SDP candidate questioned how armed groups can carry out mass abductions with ease, emphasizing the need for stronger security measures. He pointed out that every local government in Nigeria has at least one police division, which should be equipped to respond quickly to threats.

Adebayo’s comments come as Nigeria grapples with a surge in violent crime, including kidnappings and banditry. The government has faced widespread criticism for its handling of the security situation, with many calling for a more effective approach that addresses the root causes of the crisis. His statement underscores the urgent need for action to restore security and stability.

The insecurity issue in Nigeria is complex and multifaceted, requiring a comprehensive approach that involves not only the government but also other stakeholders. Adebayo highlighted the importance of transparency, accountability, and effective governance in ensuring the safety of citizens. With no signs of improvement in the security situation, it is crucial for the government to act immediately, address Nigerians’ concerns, and work toward a more secure future.
