President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the recent national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), labeling it as “noise making” and “rascality.” He made these remarks during a meeting with the 36 state coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he reaffirmed his readiness for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Tinubu referred to the ADC event as a “street convention,” emphasizing his commitment to democracy and national unity.

During his address, the President expressed his gratitude to the coordinators and conveyed his determination to seize the opportunity to break the shackles of poverty and ignorance. He stated, “I am inspired. I’m ready. This is an opportunity of a lifetime to ensure democracy survives—not the noise-making, not the rascality of a street convention.” Tinubu underscored the importance of adhering to the rule of law, asserting, “We cannot submit to disobedience of unlawful orders. If that is the goal, we must embrace the judiciary whether it favours us or doesn’t.”

Furthermore, he highlighted the necessity of upholding the principles of democracy, the separation of powers, and understanding the dynamics of nationhood in Nigeria. He called for unity and a shared vision for the country’s future, stating, “We must build one country. There is no other way. The path to national greatness is one common vision, one nation for the progress and prosperity of our people. That is what you must do.”

These remarks come as preparations for the 2027 elections are underway, with Tinubu signaling his intent to seek a second term. His comments also reflect the ongoing tensions within Nigeria’s political landscape, where opposition parties like the ADC continue to challenge the ruling administration. Tinubu’s focus on the judiciary and national unity highlights his administration’s priorities as it navigates both internal and external political pressures.
