APC Kano Reaffirms Support for Tinubu Amid False Withdrawal Claims

Kano State’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected claims that it has withdrawn support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambitions, dismissing the assertion as a “misleading fabrication” by unnamed individuals seeking to sow discord within the party.

In an official statement issued on April 17, 2026, and signed by state publicity secretary Auwalu Abdullahi Soja, the APC in Kano described a purported withdrawal notice attributed to a group styling itself as the Arewa APC Forum, Kano State Chapter, as false and politically motivated. The party clarified that no constitutionally recognised organ within the state chapter had authorised any such declaration.

“The APC in Kano is aware of attempts by certain individuals and faceless groups to create confusion and disunity within the party,” the statement read. “We wish to state categorically that this so-called forum is not known to the party structure and does not represent the views of APC members in Kano State.”

The party reaffirmed its full backing for President Tinubu’s administration, citing its focus on governance reforms, economic stabilisation, and national development. It also called on members and the public to disregard the statement entirely, characterising it as the work of “mischief-makers” attempting to generate unnecessary tension.

Officials further noted that the alleged signatory of the withdrawal notice is not a recognised stakeholder within the party at any level in the state. Under the leadership of state chairman Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, the Kano APC reiterated its commitment to party unity and its support for Tinubu’s leadership.

The development comes amid broader national debates over the president’s performance and future political trajectory, with Kano—Nigeria’s most populous state—remaining a key political battleground.
