Ebonyi State Governor’s Wife Becomes UNESCO’s Spotlight Initiative Ambassador

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO, Spotlight Initiative has appointed the Ebonyi State Governor’s wife, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru as it’s Ambassador for the state.

This was in a bid to recognise the contributions of the Ebonyi State Governor’s wife to the Educational development of women and children.

The Governor’s was honored in her office, New Government house, Centenary City, Abakaliki, when she received members of UNESCO/Spotlight initiative led by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Adult Education/Mass Literacy, Barr Mrs. Stella Nwagu on a courtesy visit.

This was contained in the speech of the Director of UNESCO/Spotlight Initiative, Dr Stephen Onyekwelu when he led members of the team to honour Chief Mrs. Nwifuru as their Ambassador for her commitment in promoting education in the state.

Dr Stephen Onyekwelu commended the Ebonyi state government for their effort in education system and pleaded for more work to be done especially at the rural communities.

Reacting, the First Lady, Mrs Nwifuru said that the new assignment was a call to impact more on the society.

Consequently, she  promised that the current administration would continue to support inclusive education, especially for girls, young women, orphans and the underprivileged in Ebonyi State.

Moreso, she explained that the just concluded Flag- off of the 2023 Mass Literacy Campaign in the state was in a bid to drive home the message that literacy is an opportunity to make a better life for one’s self as everyone deserves an opportunity to learn, read and write.
