Denver Nuggets fire coach Michael Malone, general manager Calvin Booth

The Denver Nuggets fired Michael Malone as their head coach on Tuesday.

Malone, who led the team to the NBA title in 2023 and eight consecutive winning seasons, was sacked less than a week into the regular season.

General Manager Calvin Booth is also out after the Nuggets decided not to renew his contract.

David Adelman will replace Malone as head coach for the remainder of the season.

The Vice Chairman of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, Josh Kroenke, said “it is with no pleasure” that the organization made the changes.

Kroenke stated: “This decision was not made lightly and was evaluated very carefully. We made it only with the intention of giving our group the best chance at competing for the 2025 NBA Championship and delivering another title to Denver and our fans everywhere.”

The Nuggets are 47–32 this season with three games left, but have dropped four consecutive games and are in a logjam of teams fighting for home-court advantage in Round 1 of the playoffs.
