Vivo OriginOS 7 Leak Reveals Liquid Glass UI, Customizable Controls

Vivo is preparing a significant visual redesign for OriginOS 7, its next major software update based on Android 17, according to details shared by prominent tipster Ice Universe on X. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer is reportedly developing three distinct glass-inspired interface styles that will allow users to customise transparency, blur, lighting and material effects across the system.

The leaked information indicates users will be able to choose between Liquid Glass, regular glass and frosted glass treatments. Each option is said to handle visual effects differently, providing varied aesthetic approaches to the interface. Recent test builds reportedly include a toggle to disable glass effects entirely, catering to users who prefer a simpler, less resource-intensive appearance.

Beyond the glass styles, OriginOS 7 is expected to introduce a redesigned dock with a glossy, translucent finish. App icons will sit within this dock, accompanied by a translucent search pill positioned above it. The interface may also incorporate background blur and spring-style animations when opening applications or accessing the Control Centre.

The Control Centre itself is slated for expanded customisation. Early Android 17 beta details suggest users will gain the ability to move or remove modules from the upper section, including connectivity cards for Wi-Fi and cellular networks, media playback controls, sound settings, volume and brightness sliders, and connected smartwatch widgets. The lower shortcut grid is also expected to become fully rearrangeable through an edit mode, allowing individual toggles to be removed or repositioned.

Ice Universe drew comparisons between Vivo’s approach and Samsung’s reported One UI 9.5 design direction. While Samsung’s leaked implementation appears to create glass effects through edge highlights, background blur and shadows, OriginOS 7 is expected to offer multiple distinct material treatments rather than a single aesthetic.

Vivo has reportedly begun recruiting participants for its OriginOS 7 beta programme, signalling that development is advancing toward public testing. The company is expected to refine the software based on user feedback before a wider release. The update represents a notable shift toward deeper visual personalisation in Vivo’s Android skin, positioning OriginOS 7 as a more flexible platform for users who prioritise interface customisation alongside performance.
