Sergio Pérez, the 35‑year‑old Mexican Formula 1 driver, was seen at the US Open final on Sunday, watching Carlos Alcaraz face Jannik Sinner. He attended the match with his wife at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where Alcaraz secured his sixth Grand Slam title and the world No. 1 ranking. The US Open shared a clip of Pérez enjoying the tennis on its official social‑media channels.

After being dropped by Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season—despite having signed an extension earlier that year—Pérez took a break from racing. With no seats available on the grid, he chose to relax and spend time with his family. Now he is set to return to Formula 1 in 2026 with the American team Cadillac.

Cadillac’s decision to sign Pérez was heavily influenced by his impressive interview, according to team CEO Dan Towriss. Towriss said Pérez’s experience and ambitions fit the team’s project, and the organization was excited about the prospect of working with him. Although the team initially considered a younger driver, Pérez’s candidacy won them over.

Team principal Graeme Lowdon explained that signing seasoned drivers such as Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez is a deliberate strategy to signal Cadillac’s intent. Together, the two drivers boast 16 race wins and more than 100 podiums, and their leadership and feedback will be crucial in building the new team. Lowdon also thanked Mercedes for its cooperation and understanding during the signing process.

Pérez’s return to the grid in 2026 is highly anticipated, and his experience is expected to play a significant role in shaping Cadillac’s performance. As his hiatus ends, fans will be watching closely to see how he adapts to the new team and the upcoming season.
