Jigawa SUBEB Chairman Assures Teachers Assessment Aims to Reform Education

JIGAWA STATE, NIGERIA — Professor Haruna Musa, Executive Chairman of the Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has reassured teachers that the ongoing teachers’ assessment test is aimed at reforming the education system, not fault-finding.

Speaking on Sunday during an address to teachers at an assessment test centre in Dutse, the state capital, Professor Musa said the exercise forms part of the state government’s broader efforts to improve the quality of basic education. He stressed that the initiative is not intended to target or punish teachers, but rather to identify practical strategies for strengthening the sector.

“We are not here to look for faults or shortcomings among you,” he said. “Our focus is to work hand-in-hand with you to reform our basic education system.”

He described teachers as critical partners in the reform process, noting that their experiences, challenges, and suggestions are vital in shaping effective policies. “Your input will help us deliver meaningful and lasting impact in our classrooms,” he added.

The SUBEB chairman urged teachers to remain committed to their duties, continue inspiring pupils, and embrace innovation and positive change in their teaching methods. He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration and mutual trust between educators and policymakers would drive significant progress in Jigawa’s education sector.

Professor Musa also commended teachers for their dedication and unwavering service, wishing them a productive and fulfilling week ahead.

The assessment exercise is part of a wider reform agenda under the administration of Governor Umar Namadi, aimed at raising standards in basic education across the state.
